Abstract

A fungus of the group hyphomycetes-Paecilomyces lilacinus was used to control major nematode pest meloidogyne incognita under Indian agroclimatic conditions. Fungus was screened on sixteen different substrates for their wide scale multiplication. Maximum spore load per gram was noted on rice grains. In biocontrol experiment it was noted that plant growth was better in plants treated with substrate having fungal growth over them in comparison to untreated one. Reduction in galling final soil nematode population number of egg masses and number of eggs per egg mass was noted in fungus treated plants. It was noted that fungus acts as an egg parasite and prevent its further development. Results indicate that this fungus effectively control M. incognita under Indian agroclimatic conditions
