Abstract
Many kinds of insecticides have been used to control the diamondback moth not only in Japan also in other countries. In some effective insecticidal control become impossible due to the development of multiple and cross resistance to the insecticides in the diamondback moth. Biological characterisitics of the diamondback moth were clarified short life cycle high fecundity short larval and long mature period high adaptability to different climates relative wide host range attack to vegetable sprout attack of cash crops numerous natural enemies but few key ones high adaptability to insecticides and long distance migration. Methods of mass rearing and bioassay with cabbage leaf dipping were developed. Insecticides resistance patterns the instabilities of resistance and the selective toxicity of insecticides between the diamondback moth and egg parasite have been observed. The forecasting adult population density and partial control of the diamondback moth with the yellow sticky trap have also been observed. It is suggested that a possible challenge to the diamondback moth resistance to insecticides involves monitoring of resistance with leaf dipping method use of selective insecticides and rotation use of no cross resistance insecticides with forecasting and partial control with yellow sticky trap
