Abstract
These studies were conducted to investigate some aspects of resistance development in twospotted spider mite. Tetranychus urticae Koch by single or laternate selection with chemically different groups of acaricides; and also examine cross- and multiple-resistance among the acaricides to the selected strain in those which we had tested. The development of chemical resistance in the twospotted spider mite was greatly varied by single selection with each different acaricide such as ethion organophosphate dicofol organo-chlorine cyhexatin organo-tin and biphenthrin synthetic pyrethroid. In case of singly chemical selection the ethion-selected strain showed moderate level of cross-resistance to biphenthrin and low level both to dicofol and cyhexatin. The dicofol-selected strain revealed also moderate cross-resistance level to ethion and low level to cyhexatin and biphenthrin whereas the cyhexatin-selected strain exhibited high cross-resistance level to ethion and low level to biphenthrin but not to dicofol. Meantime the biphenthrin-selected strain showed high cross-resistance level to ethion and relatively low level both to cyhexatin and dicofol. The resistance levels were also varied under alternate selection with the different combinations of four acaricides. In case of alternately chemical selection the ethion/dicofol-selected strain revealed moderate level of multiple-resistance to biphenthrin and very low level to cyhexatin. The ethion/cyhexatin-selected strain however showed moderate multiple-resistance level to biphenthrin. Finally the dicofol/biphenthrin-selected strain revealed high multiple-resistance level to ethion and very low level to cyhexatin while cyhexatin/biphenthrin-selected strain showed high multiple-resistance to ethion and very low level to dicofol
