Abstract

Tissue analysis is a valuable tool to diagnose nutrient status of crops among other purposes. In order to propose a suitable leaf sampling procedure for sago palm a preliminary study was conducted to examine leaf nutrient variations due to position of leaflets frond age season soil type palm age growth stage and fertilizer. It is recommended that frond 3 is to be sampled in August and the middle segment of leaflets is used for nutrient analysis. NPK contents in leaf were found to show a significant negative relationships with palm age in a fertilizer trial. Leaf nutrient contents of mature palms at different growth stages from flowering to fruiting did not differ appreciably except leaf K and Mn. The order of leaf nutrient composition in the sago palm frond was found to be N greater than K greater than Ca greater than Mg P greater than Mn greater than Fe greater than Zn greater than Cu
