Abstract

In North Sumatra where the agro-climatic conditions are very suitable for oil palm the yield of the Deli x La Me crosses is twice that observed in Cote d'Ivoire. The yield of the Deli x La Me crosses after the sixth year is higher and more regular than that of the other kinds of crosses. The average yield of the Deli x La Me commercial seeds at Marihat is 6.9 tonnes of oil/ha/year from the sixth to the sixteenth year 28.5 tonnes of ffb. The best average yields observed so far at Bangun Bandar from the fourth to the eighth year are 8.3 tonnes of oil/ha/year for the reproductions of first cycle crosses and 9.5 tonnes of oil/ha/year for the second cycle crosses. In the near future the cloning of ortets from the best progenies should produce clones with a potential of 10 to 11 tonnes of oil on some sites like Bangun Bandar
