Abstract

Two species of Tenualosa terubok are found in Sarawak Tenualosa toli big-mouthed shad and T. macrura small-mouthed shad or longtail shad. T. toli in Batang Lupar was specifically studied and the biological aspects of the fishery are discussed. Early in the season April there is a dominance of smaller fish entering the estuary. The matured female fishes enter the estuary later than the male fishes. Length at first maturity is 29 cm forklength fl. Peak catches of T. toli is also associated with the periods of low salinity. Stock assessment of the fishery was briefly discussed
