Abstract

The breeding and selection research on Hevea brasiliensis between the years 1966 to 1973 by RRIM has given rise to a series of RRIM 900 series clones RRIM 901 - RRIM 943. Several clones from this series have been included in the recent list of Class II and Class III recommended clones for planting. Each of the clones has distinctive characteristics as seen through the seed leaf branching pattern latex and other recognisable secondary characteristics. These characteristics may differ at different stages of growth for the same clone. These morphological characteristics are useful tools for the clone inspectors in the identification of true-to-type clones for multiplication in source bush nurseries and removal of rogues in field planting. The aim is to reduce clonal mixture in the monoclonal cultivation of Hevea. Characteristics useful in the identification of some popular clones in RRIM 900 series are described
