Abstract

One of the major disadvantages of sandy soils is their poor structure associated with low nutrient and water holding capacities. Differences in soil structure are reflected in bulk density variations. To investigate the influence of manure on the structure of sandy soils the bulk density of such soils was measured at strategic locations under a ciku Achras zapota L. stand in low about 1.0 implying good soil structure. These points are within the sites of manure application. Further away from the trees soil structure remained poor. However the question as to how long this effect lasts remains unanswered.
