Abstract

A laboratory study was conducted to determine the effect of 3 temperatures 20 30 40 C 2 moisture potentials pF 2.54 2.19 and 2 carriers coirdust CD ground oil palm fronds GOPF on Bacillus sp. during a 23-week storage period for the purpose of formulating a high-quality inoculant. Results indicated that GOPF promoted survival better than CD. Moisture potential had no significant effect on Bacillus growth by itself but had a significant interaction between temperature x carrier x time. A constant storage temperature of 30 C was optimum for Bacillus viability and growth for 23 weeks of storage. The study demonstrated that GOPF carrier with a moisture potential of 2.54 incubated at 30 C can sustain viability of Bacillus sphaericus UPM10 for up to 6 months at cfu/g GOPF.
