Abstract

The explants embryo of matured rice Oryza sativa L. from varieties Taichung Native-1 basmati 370 Utri Merah MR81 Belimau Puteh Pankhari 307 and IR42 were cultured in vitro on MS medium supplemented with various combinations of 2 4-D 2 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and kinetin ranging from 1.0-6.0 mg/L and 0.1 - 1.0 mg/L respectively. In most of the combinations calli formations were observed and callus size differed according to the particular hormone combinations and rice varieties used. The best combination was made up of 5.5 mg/L 2 4-D and 0-0.1 mg/L kinetin. Transfer of the callus onto regeneration medium made up of MS medium containing 50 h/L sucrose and 10 mg/L kinetin did not result in the production of plantlets.
