Abstract
Gluthathione-s-transferase is one of the enzymes which are important in the detoxication activities of xenobiotics. This paper reports preliminary studies of this enzyme in the pest snail B. similaris and the effects of metaldehyde on its activites. The pH range of the activity of this enzyme was found to be between 6.0-8.0; being optimum at pH 7.5. The temperature range was between 28 deg.C - 40 deg. C. At pH 7.5-28 deg. C. the activity of GST in the tissue homogenate of untreated animal was found to be 3.3-5.7 unit/g tissue. When metaldehyde was included in the diet the activity increased proportionately to the dosage until 1 metaldehyde. At higher concentrations these activities were found to be decreased
