Abstract

A greenhouse study was carried out to investigate the effects of two herbicides viz. paraquat and glyphosate on soil enzymes urease and phosphatase activity in sandy loam soil. The concentrations applied were 0 2.5 and 250 ppm for paraquat while for glyphosate it was 9.5 and 950 ppm. The assay was carried out until 49 days after treatment. The results showed that both herbicides did not affect the activity of the two enzymes studied. However grasses added on the soil surface could enhance the enzyme activity than those without grasses
