Abstract

Freshwater ecosystems in Malaysia such as rivers reservoirs natural and artificial lakes swamps and ponds provide food electricity recreation and water for industrial agricultural and domestic needs. The rapid development that the country is experiencing poses threats to these pristine and valuable ecosystems. To meet the future demand for aquatic resources inland ecosystems and fisheries have to be appropriately developed through preserving water quality natural fish recruitment and effective fisheries/aquaculture practice and management
