Abstract

Two major compounds with two minor compounds were isolated from G. macrophyllus. A major compound styryldihidropyron goniothalamin was isolated from petroleum ether crude extract of roots whilst a flavanon pinocembrin yield from ethyl acetate crude extract of stem bark. This flavanon was assigned as 4H-l-benzopyran-4-on 2 3-dihydro-5 7-dihidroxy-2-phenil was the previously known in G. fasciculatus G. giganteus and G griffithii. An alkaloid A a minor compound was separated from ethyl acetate crude extract of stem bark while a mixture of sterol yield from fraction hexane of leaves. Pinocembrin showed higher toxicity compared to goniothalamin with LC50 5.00 and 30.71 ppm respectively with the brine shrimp lethality test BSLT. Structural elucidations of the pure compounds are carried out using spectroscopic methods.
