Abstract

Ardisia elliptica Thunb. belongs to the plant family Myrsinaceae. Phytochemical study on the ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves of A. elliptica has resulted in the isolation of three compounds 5-pentadecylbenzene-l 3-diol or 5-pentadecylresorcinol 1 alpha-amyrin 2 and taraxerone 3. The chemical structures were established using modem spectroscopic techniques. This is the first report of the isolation of 5-pentadecylbenzene-l 3-diol from this species.
