Abstract

The essential oil of Curcuma zedoaria Rosc. from Malaysia obtained by hydrodistillation of the fresh rhizomes was analysed by a combination of capillary GC and GC/MS. Twenty-nine components have been identified by comparison of their Kovats Indices KI with those reported in the literature and their mass spectral data with those from the mass spectral database. The essential oil was made up of monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids. The major components identified were 1 8-cineole 20.10 curzerenone 16.27 furanogermenone 13.70 and camphor 7.63.
