Abstract

Thirteen species of Malaysian medicinal plants were examined for their anti-inflammatory activities using the in vitro lipoxygenase hyaluronidase and platelet- activating factor PAF receptor binding antagonist and in vivo tetradecanoylphorbol aceatate TPA induced mouse ear oedema assays. These techniques are frequently used to access the anti-inflammatory effect of natural products. Leaf extracts of Lantana camara was found to exhibit strong inhibition in the TPA model and PAF receptor binding assay. Piper betle exhibited both in vitro lipoxygenase and in vivo TPA model anti-inflammatory activities.
