Abstract
Lemongrass a perennial herb widely cultivated in the tropics and subtropics designates two different species Cymbopogon flexuosus and Cymbopogon citratus. C. Citratus is native in Malaysia and is grown throughout Southeast Asia. It is important in South East Asia cooking with the great popularity. Lemon grass has made its way onto countless ingredients lists for all sorts of dishes. The lemongrasses are cultivated commercially in Guatemala India the people's Republic of China Paraguay England Sri Lanka and other parts include Indochina Africa Central America and South America. Now effort has been done to plant lemongrass in commercial manner and the venture proved to be profitable with ever increasing demand. In view of its economic value and to meet the requirement of the various industries large scale planting of C. citratus is urgently needed. Hence agroforestry is one of the options to develop an alternative sustainable supply of C. citratus in the market. Beside it may also offer alternative solution for the early cash inflow to the long gestation period in forest plantation.
