Abstract

Soils in West Java Indonesia are derived from volcanic or sedimentary materials. Mineralogical and micromorphological studies of four soil profiles on a toposequence of Mt. Pulosari Saketi show that theys are developed from old volcanic and sedimentary materials and rejuvenated by fresh volcanic ash from the 1883's Krakatau eruption. The upper two profiles have developed a cambic and a kandic horizons while the lower two profiles have argilic horizons. They are classified as Dystrudepts Kandiudults and Paleudults according to Soil Taxonomy or Cambisols and Acrisols according to the World Reference Base.
