Abstract

This study is an attempt to establish tumeric on study tin-tailing soils ameliorated with Palm Oil Mill Effluent POME. Two methods of POME application i.e. row application and broadcast application at varying rates of POME 21-85 t/ha were compared. The treatments were factorially combined and arranged in a RCBD with three replicates. Harvesting was at eight months from planting. Significantly higher rhizome yields 6.63 t/ha was obtained with row application of POME compared to broadcast application 4.69 t/ha. Rhizome yield response to increasing rates of POME was quadratic represents by the equation Y -0.1558 0.3143 P _ 0.0026 P where Y fresh rhizome yield in t/ha and P POME in t/ha. The optimum rate of POME was 60 t/ha. The mean harvest index was 0.47 and did not differ significantly with treatments.
