Abstract

The pathogenicity of five indigeneous isolated from 2 species of entomopathogenic fungi was studied for their effectiveness against the adults of the cocoa pod borer CPB Conopomorpha cramerella Snellen in the laboratory. The fungal isolated used were from Metarhizium anisopliae Msbn Mchi Msib Msb8 and Beauveria bassiana BbGc. The adults showed disease symptoms three days after inoculation. All of the isolates could inflict 100 mortality within four to six days of exposure at a concentration of 1 x 108 conidia mL-1 in 0.05 aqueous Tween 80. Isolates Msbn was the most efficacious giving 100 mortality by the fourth day followed by BbGc Msib and Mchi Msb8 by the fifth and sixth days respectively. The isolates that gave 100 mortality within five days of exposure were selected for subsequent field evaluations.
