Abstract

The use of dual tyres floatation tyres and traction aids such as cage wheels can improve a machine's field mobility on soggy ground conditions which normally occur on coastal estates especially during the wet season. Cage wheels perform better than others on very soggy mechanical paths whilst on step terrain the mechanized in-field FFB evacuation system is more efficient which mechanical-terrace paths compared to wide terraces. On social aspects the success of mechanization depends on management commitment suitability of machine mechanization friendly access ability to overcome labour shortage enhanced worker productivity and ability of attaining and maintaining the desired harvesting interval. Worker participation is likely to be encouraging if he sees the scheme contributing positively towards better earnings and a better working environment.
