Abstract

This study was performed to determine the intracardiac dimensions wall thickness luminal dimensions and calculations derived from the measurement of motion-mode M-mode echocardiography in the normal heart of mongrel kampong Indonesian dog. Nine adult healthy dogs were used in this study. They consisted of 5 male and 4 female dogs of about 12.5 kg in body weight. Echocardiography examination was performed in awake and unsedated in right lateral recumbent position after a physical examination and electrocardiography. The results for intracardiac dimensions and calculation derived from the measurement of m-mode: left ventricular internal dimension at diastole LVIDd 27.22 3:30 mm left ventricular internal dimension at systole LVIDs 16:31 2.78 mm and fractional shortening FS 0:41 0:06. Wall thickness measurements: interventricular septal at diastole IVSs 6:39 0:29 mm interventricular septal at systole IYSs 0:52 8.73 mm left ventricular wall diastole LVWd 7:50 1:03 mm and left ventricular wall systole LVWs 10.84 2:02 mm. Luminal dimension measurements: aortic root dimension AOD 13:22 1:32 mm left atrial dimension LAD 15:49 1:29 mm and left atrial to aortic root ratio LAD/AOD 1:180:10. Mitral end point separation EPSS was 3:14 0.82 mm. There was only a significant relationship between gender and IVSs p 0.05 and EPSS p 0.0 I.
