Abstract

Smart partnership is about creating limitless opportunities and wealth that are shared sustainable and that allows the participants to function in the global economy. It is now becoming a new metaphor for business relationships that can operate at all levels including the medicinal plant sector. Major ingredients needed for ensuring the success of Smart Partnership include shared vision trust transparency and networks. MIGHT is an example of Smart Partnership between government and private sectors in Malaysia. Through the MIGHT Interest Group MIG in Herbal Products established in late 1998 MIGHT has managed to assemble key players from both sectors to address a common agenda and on how to position Malaysia as an international player in herbal products in the 21st century. In this paper the programmes strategies and activities of MIG are highlighted using the Smart Partnership approaches. Major issues affecting the industry were discussed openly and recommendations were made jointly through consensus by both parties. MIGHT is also committed to ensuring the effective implementation of the recommendations.
