Abstract
Crude ethanol methanol and chloroform extracts of leaf tissues calluses and cell-suspensions of Azadirachta indica A. Juss neem were bioassayed for toxicity to larvae of flour beetles Tribolium castaneum. Experiments have been done by feeding the larvae with artificial breeding medium ABM containing the various concentrations of the extracts. Bioasay of the larvae of T. castaneum revealed that the organic fraction of ethanol methanol and chloroform obtained from leaf tissues calluses and cell-supension of A. indica were capable of inhibiting he growth of the larvae although the mortality was not observed throughout the experiment. This result suggested that the bioactive compounds that might be responsible for the inhibition were capable of inducing the multiple effects resulting in interference in the growth of the larvae. Methanol fraction from leaf tissues of A. indica showed higher inhibition activity compared to the other fraction from leaf tissues calluses and cell-supensions. Treatment with 125pp extract of leaf tissues resulted in 50 inhibition of the growth compared to the control.
