Abstract
Kopsia caudata is used by local community in Sabah to treat various diseases such as rheumatism tonsilitis cuts and wounds and skin diseases. Phtochemical studies on the stem of this species resulted in the isolation of three plumeran alkaloids i.e. N-methylkopsinine kopsinine and N-methoxycarbonyl-12-methoxy D16 17-kopsinine. The structures of these alkaloids were assigned by spectral methods. All the alkaloids showed strong antibacterial properties especially on Staphyllococcus aureus Shigella sonnei and Escherichia coli.
