Abstract
Fractionation and isolation of compounds from the stem of Macaranga triloba were carried out by chromatographic methods while structural elucidation of the isolates were performed by spectroscopic techniques such as ultraviolet UV infrared IR nuclear magnetic resonance H NMR and C NMR and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry GC-MS. Compound 5 7-dimethoxyflavone and a mixture of sterol which were identified as ergost-5-en-3-ol stigmasta-5 22-dien-3-ol and stigmast-5-en-3-ol were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Macaranga triloba.
