Abstract

This paper updates the latest development on the Environmental Assessment of Sites and Organisations EASO and highlights on its impacts to the industry in the following areas. - The industries are expected to prepare themselves for the implementation of this all encompassing standards. - The financial sector is expected especially the Banks and Insurance Industries to be ready to explore the possibility of using this standard in their businesses for guiding investors to evaluate sites. The banks and Insurance Industries are expected to support investment based on EASO assessment. - Plantation Sector can expect to have a good new standard to evaluate the property and land value of their companies' assets. - The Manufacturing industries can look forward to new requirements to evaluate both the virgin and abandoned land for them to set up their plants and factories. In all the above cases they are expected to understand importance of the environmental impact on their businesses. It is concluded that unlike environmental auditing which is based on documented data this new standard is expected to base the evaluation on the professional assessment and judgement process. The main difference which is emphasized in the standard is expected to revolutionise the thinking on assessment rather than auditing per se.
