Abstract
Environmental labels and declarations are a means for manufacturer to inform consumers that the product or service is manufactured to a set of predetermined environmental criteria or requirements. Purchasers can use this information in choosing the products and services of their desire based on environmental considerations. They are made through label issued by approved third party organization or through self-declaration. It is hoped to encourage the demand for and supply of those products and serviced that cause less stress on the environment. The date there are three types of environmental labes being practised and ISO has published a series of standards addressing the different types of labeling. This presentation will descuss in general the Type I II and III labeling and declarations its link to other standards within the ISO 14000 series standards and the potential difficulties faced during implementation. This presentation will also discuss its implication to developing countries like Malaysia which is a major producer of palm oil rubber and timber.
