Abstract

The two documents on Environmental Performance Evaluation EPEISO 14031 and TR 14032 were published at the end of 1999. EPE refers to a tool that can provide an organization's management with reliable objective and verifiable information irrespective of the fact that the organization has or has not an Environmental Management System in place. This information is usually linked to the achievement of an organization's environmental objectives targets and other environmental performance criteria. ISC-Z/TC 4 on EPE has contributed to the development of these documents since 1995 and has carried out a number of activities for 'Making EPE Happen in Malaysia'. A delegation also attended the recent meeting of ISO/TC 207's Sub-committee 4 at Stockholm and follow-up actions are being considered for the year before the next meeting that is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur in June 2001. The prospects for EPE in Malaysia now depend on the response of organizations in making it one of the tools for facilitating management decisions regarding the organization's environmental performance.
