Abstract

Fifty three of Vitaceae excluding Leea are now known to occur in the Malay Peninsula representing 74 increase compared to the previous treatment. Of these 6 are endemics 9 represent new records and 2 are new to science Pterisanthes stonei and Ampelocissus ascendiflora. Although some are found among the lower montane forest vegetation of Bukit Fraser Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands most are found in exposed habitats of the lowland dipterocarp forests. Recently evidences from morphology anatomy phytochemistry and palynology become available for data integration. This has resulted in a revised generic and specific delikitation which can contribute to understanding of the taxa in the Peninsula. 8 genera viz Cissus Cayratia Ampelopsis Parthenocissus Ampelocissus Tetrastigma and Pterisanthes including one new genus Nothocissus are recognised.
