Abstract

This first fish species inventory for Lake Kenyir a reservoir in Malaysia is the result of collections and enquiries with fishermen and recreational anglers from January to December 1992. Thirty species have been identified and more than 70 of them are cyprinids. Most of the species can be found in the rivers entering the lake. Nine species are common in the lake. The species belong to 6 orders and 12 families. An identification key to family level is provided as well as descriptions of morphometric characters of each species. The information should serve as a baseline for future changes in the fish species composition of the reservoir.
