Abstract

Palm fatty acid distillate PFAD is a by-product of physical refining of palm oil. The effect of refining on the levels of squalene in palm products and PFAD is discussed. The significance and utilizations of squalene are reviewed. PFAD is relatively rich in squalene and thus considered as a source of vegetable-based squalene. Research on its recovery has been made and some results are presented.
