Abstract

A free fatty acid analyzer was installed at a palm oil refinery plant as an alternative to the conventional manual titration. An on-line free fatty acid analysis would enable a real time on-line automatic sampling and analysis of refined bleached and deodorized palm oil to be performed. The accuracy of the analyzer was tested by comparing the results against those obtained from the manual titration method conducted in two different laboratories and its precision was also studied. Results given by the analyzer were comparable with those obtained from the manual titration. For accuracy test based on the T-test statistical analysis it was found that the regression coefficient value was 0.392 and the intercept value was 0.694. As for the analyzers precision the standard deviation was 0.0004.
