Abstract

The von Bertalanffy model is widely used to describe growth especially fishes. This description can be improved if seasonal variability of growth rate is taken into account.Temperature fluctuation of water body and growth rate are usually correlated. Minimum and maximum water temperatures are usually essential parameters in many models concerning seasonal fish growth. These two temperatures growth end points may be not available for some species or not accurate or might be misleading. A new model is developed incorporating daily temperatures in the von Bertalanffy growth formula in which the model approximates fish lengths in fluctuating temperature environment. Minimum or maximum temperatures that fish growth ceased need not to be known. The model has been applied successfully to a set of data including salmon bullhead Cottus gobioL. at Bere Stream and European grayling Thymallus thymallus L. in Ain River.
