Abstract
Nature education by Nature Study Program and Weekend Camping Program in one of the main function of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. Initiated in 1978 these programs are aimed at creating nature awareness among youths. It is specially design for the lower and upper secondary school students but students from universities institutions of higher learning and primary school students have also participated in the programs upon their request. The Nature Study Centre in Kuala Atok since its inception in 1978 is the pioneer centre for such programs. Subsequently the Nature Study Centre in Bukit Rengit was opened 1985 and the Nature Study Centre in Wang Pinang Perlis was opened in 1993. The Nature Study Program is a five day program that are conducted during the schools holidays while the Weekend Camping Program is a three day program conducted during the weekends. Both courses are jointly organised by the Department of Wildlife and National Park DWNP and the Ministry of Education. Field activities such as jungle tracking river expedition wildlife observation canoeing cave exploration and orienteering are some of the popular activities contained in these programs.
