Abstract

The influence of organic material peat on the dissolution of phosphate rock PR and P released was investigated PR mixed with different amounts of peat and then compacted was suspended in solution. P and Ca released in solution and solution pH were determined. Solution P and Ca were found to increased with increasing amount of peat. The presence of urea in the compacted mixture increased the pH resulting in humic acid being hydrolysed. Ca from the PR was found to be chelated by the humic acid resulting in the dissolution of PR. However the supposedly released P from the dissolution was not detected in the solution.
