Abstract

A lot catchment areas in Malaysia especially the remote upstream part are not gauged due terrain difficulties and maintenance of equipments. The lack of data poses difficulties if we are ask to calculate soil erosion and soil loss when new development such as new impoundment are to be constructed. In this case erosion could only be estimated based on some simple analysis relating to basic catchment parameters and rainfall data which have a good coverage all over Malaysia. This paper described the use of some basic catchment characteristics in calculating and estimating the river discharge and sediment yield using rainfall and runoff relationship for catchment area with limited data source and ungauged catchment areas.
