Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the use of coarse ground rice straw GRS as the main fiber source by mixing with green chopped Napier grass CNG in ratios of 0:100 25:75 50:50 75:50 or 100:0 of dry matter in total mixed ration TMR. In the first trial two fistulated Holstein friesian cows were used in randomized block design to evaluate treatment effect on disappearance rate and effective degradability. The result indicated that disappearance rate was similar among treatments P0.0 while effective degradability decreased as rations of GRS to CNG increased P0.05. In the second trial ten Holstein Friesian lactating cows were assigned in repeated measurement in completely randomized design to evaluate effect of treatments. Results indicated that all treatments had no effect on milk yield milk components and blood metabolites P0.05.
