Abstract
Intensive pig production has given rise to concerns of poor quality pork and environmental pollution. Integrated pig-crops farms were recently introduced in China to overcome these negative perceptions from the general public. A case study in a pig-crops integrated farm in southern China showed that replacing a portion of grain concentrates with folder plus herbal additive improved pork quality without adversely affecting growth performance. In addition pig wastewater was recycled to fertilize the fodder and fruit trees in the farm and thus reduced the risk of environmental pollution.
