Abstract
Peat swamp forest PSF is a unique ecosystem and plays important role in maintaining environmental balance. It prevents flooding by absorbing heavy rainfall during wet season and releases moisture back to the environment during dry season. In the last decade the incidences of forest fire in peat is on the increase. In 1998 most of fire occurred was in peat forest area. This is due to the influence of EL-Noni phenomena on this region. The objective of the paper is to review the peat fire characteristics its relationship with climate parameters. Suggestions on fire prevention and control in peat forest will also be discussed in this paper.
