Abstract
Livestock plays a very important role in poverty alleviation in Java Indonesia. However the demand of high investment in the initial phase of livestock management especially to purchase cattle causes difficulties for most of the farmers to improve their lives through livestock. On the other hand in Java especially the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region there are sharing arrangements between 'actors' with high capital ownership but relatively low labour availability and farmers with the opposite conditions. This study aims to understand and explain the existing models of sharing arrangements the criteria used in the agreement the financial and social aspects of the arrangements and to investigate factors affecting the failure of success of sharing models. Qualitative and quantitative data analyses based on interviews and observations with different stakeholders are used. A total of 112 farmers 39 capital owners and 13 government personnel have been interviewed.
