Abstract

Effect of nitrogen fixing green manures viz.Azolla and sesbania with urea super granule USG on lowland rice was evaluated.Field experiments were conducted during dry and wet seasons with the varieties IR-50 105 days and CO-43 145 days respectively.Deep placement of USG significantly increased the yield and yield attributes of rice varieties compared to prilled rice. However application of USG with S. rostrata increased the yield yield attributes and nitrogen uptake of both rice varieties compared to S. aculeata or A.microphylla or A.filiculoides and USG combinations.A.filiculoides performed better than A.microphylla with USG.Similarly Sesbania and USG combinations recorded more total nitrogen accumulation in soil than Azolla and USG combinations.Interestingly A.microphylla and S.rostrata accumulated more total nitrogen in soil even after the harvest of the rice crop.
