Abstract

Natural Rubber Serum NRS which is obtained from the coagulation of latex is a waste product of the rubber industry.A fertilizer made from NRS called Natural Rubber Serum Fertilizer NRSF was evaluated for its effectiveness as a fertilizer source for vegetables. The experiment was conducted at two locations i.e on sand-tailings at MARDI Research Station at Kundang and on sandy clay soil at MARDI Research Station at Serdang. The vegetables tested were sawi tomato and cabbage. The levels of NRSF tested for sawi on the sandy clay soil were 500 1000 1500 kg/ha together with 0 and 3 t/ha of chicken-dung CD while the levels of NRSF on sand-tailing was 750 1125 1500 and 1875 kg/ha together with 10 and 20 t/ha tailing the levels were 1 2 3 4 t/ha NRSF with two levels of CD15 and 30 t/ha. Results obtained show that NRSF is a suitable fertilizer for vegetables on both soil-types as yields comparable to or higher than the control treatments were obtained at both locations for all the vegetables tested.
