Abstract

Control of yellow spot disease of Cymbidium caused by Fusarium fractiflexum and Fusarium proliferatum is important in commercial production of Cymbidium. However chemical fungicides cannot fully control this disease. Recently a weakly virulent Fusarium sp. was isolated and used to inoculate Cymbidium plantlets. This reduced the incidence of yellow spot disease. When Cymbidium plantlets were soaked in building cell suspension of weakly virulent Fusarium the occurrence of yellow spot disease was reduced. This Shoot soaking method proved to be an efficient method for inoculating Cymbidium plants with a mildly virulent Fusarium sp. as a means of controlling yellow spot disease of Cymbidium caused by two pathogenic Fusarium species.
