Abstract

Seeds of Cymbidium aloifolium and Cymbidium pendulum were germinated on Nitsch basal media and supplemented with auxin cytokinin and complex organic additives malt extract ME coconut water CW and tomato juice TJ. Germination and protocorn formation were best on the Nitsch medium supplemented with 1 mg IAA 1 1 mg BAP 1 0.5 mg ME 1 150 ml CW 1 and 50 ml TJ 1 for both species. Shoot and root growth and quality were better when protocorms were sub-cultured onto Nitsch medium supplemented with 0.1 mg NAA 1 and 1 mg KN 1. Full grown protocorms 150 days old were encapsulate for artificial seed production and kept at four different storage temperatures. Artificial seeds stored at 4 c under liquid paraffin showed significant increase in storage life as well as regeneration potential.
