Abstract

Flowers of Dendrobium Walter Oumae 4N were treated with 50 or 500 ppb 1-methylcycloproprene 1-MCP for 6 or 12 hrs at 20C. 1-MCP markedly reduced the rates of respiration and ethylene production and maintained higher water uptake and fresh weight than the untreated control. Flowers treated with 500 ppb 1-MCP for 12 hrs had the lowest respiration and ethylene production and the longest vase life of 20 days. Other 1-MCP treated flowers also had longer vase life 16.6-17.6 days than the control 15 days but differences were statistically insignificant.
