Abstract

In this experiment auxiliary machines were taken into consideration to calculate productivity and total comminuting cost of logging residues with a tub grinder. Tub grinder was equipped with hammer mill crusher and two excavators one with grapple and the other one with a bucket. These two excavators were considered as auxiliary machines. Hammer mill crusher was installed at the bottom of the tub. The productivity and total comminuting cost found in this experiment were 60.0 m per effective hour and 5.637 US/m respectively. This total comminuting cost indicates that comminuting cost of fixed large-sized crusher was lower than of mobile small-sized chipper. The cost for excavators was 53 of the total comminuting cost. It comprised of cost of installation carrying in and carrying out the machines and construction of landing facilities. Total cost of comminuting and transportation wood chips three times per day with 40 m truck capacity was 71.2 US/tDM. This is almost equal to that of European countries where energy utilization from logging residues is progressing.
