Abstract

Recently various operational systems for efficient thinning have been studied in Japan. This study was especially emphasized on using mechanized vehicle such as swing yarder processor and forwarder under the condition of steep slope with low roads standard. Balancing the size and ability of processors with operational system machinery and forest stand condition during bucking and operating the machines on narrow steep slope road is discussed. The relation amongst forest stand situation standing tree size and geographical features in thinning operations were considered as well. Further factors obstructing productivity were clarified.
