Abstract

A survey on visitors satisfaction level was conducted at four popular recreational locations in Bintulu Sarawak. The sites were Pantai Tg. Batu Pantai ABF Kidurong Taman Tumbina and Dewan Suarah. Except for Taman Tumbina that imposed a small fee of RM 2.00 per person per entry all other locations are free to the public. In the random survey a Likert scale of 1 to 4 was used for visitors to rank their satisfaction level towards several recreation facilities at the visited site. The facilities were signages public toilets public phones food stalls picnic spots barbeque facilities parking areas and trash cans. Data were analyzed using SPSS. It was found on average visitors indicated ratings below satisfactory level 3.00 with Taman Tumbina rate was as 2.00 Dewan Suarah 1.88Tg. Batu 1.84and Pantai ABF 1.85. However a few specific items were ranked as satisfactory for example signages and trash at Taman Tumbina 3.13 and parking facilities at Dewan Suarah 3.00. The satisfaction of signages at Taman Tumbina could be explained by the fact that it is a mini zoo that provided information signages of its animal exhibits. As for Dewan Suarah there are in existence ample parking lots in the vicinity. Taman Tumbina Pantai Tg. Batu and the Dewan Suarah area provided a range of common recreational facilities. However facilities like tilets public phones and trash cans are not available in Pantai ABF. This resulted in low satisfaction level as these facilities were excluded in the calculation for satisfaction. The results of this survey provided preliminary overall visitors satisfaction on existing recreational facilities at these selected locations in Bintulu. Further study needs to be conducted for more comprehensive picture of peoples needs and wants as recreational facilities.
